Biography

Nudds, John Thomas
August 21, 1950 - March 18, 2022

It is with broken hearts that we announce the death of John (Tom) Nudds in his 72nd year. Predeceased by his parents Herbert Noel and Margaret Laura Nudds, nee Thomsen. Beloved husband of Mary Lou Dewan for over 40 years. Cherished father of Tammy Leadlay-Chivers (Dave) and Melissa Barzanjah (Jerous Sinclair) both of London.
Grandfather to Sam Chivers, Shawn and Scott Leadlay, Paige, Payton and Avery Barzanjah. Tom is survived by his sister Mary Hunter (Gary) and his first wife Valerie Sarson. In-laws Susan Hartley (Steve Bartlett), Donna Firby (Jeff) and Patrick Dewan (Lynn) as well as his mother in-law Mildred Dewan.
Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins on both sides of the family.

Tom worked for General Motors Diesel for many years in different capacities ending as a Locomotive Test Supervisor. In the early 80’s he partnered with Tod Warner, Aldo Liberatore, Derek Shipley and Sam Hassan to form ZTR Controls. He was instrumental in developing a Smart Start system that prevents enormous amounts of diesel pollution from idling locomotives. These control systems have been installed all over the world. Tom’s legacy is secure in making the world a greener place. He treasured his life long relationships with his ZTR family.

In 2004 Tom and his best friend Rob Wright rode their Goldwing motorcycles to the west coast for a memorable holiday. In 2015 Tom retraced the route of the allied forces of WW2 throughout Europe. Recently he was elected to the board of East Elgin Sportsman’s Association. His other passions included model trains, firearms and purebred Bouvier dogs. Fortunately, Tom was able to enjoy a couple of years of retirement at the “ranch” in Melrose.
Tom had a heart of gold which endeared him to all those who knew him well.

Tom’s family is forever grateful for the care and compassion by the doctors, nurses and staff shown to Tom during his time at both of the LHSC hospitals. We are also grateful for the exemplary care provided by our family doctor Henry Chapeskie.

Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will take place in the near future. A memorial event will be held in early June.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Tom’s honour to the Heart and Stroke Foundation
or the Humane Society of London and Middlesex. Alternatively, practice random acts of kindness in Tom’s memory.

Gone yet not forgotten, although we are apart your spirit lives within us, forever in our hearts.
